Borneo Intl.Kite Festival 26 Sept- 31 Sept 2018, Bintulu , Malaysia

Borneo international Kite Festival 2018, Bintulu, Malaysia.

Bintulu is very dear to me. You know the reason why. This unique place, what I have seen has changed over the past to affirm it's long standing testimony proved worth to visit their festival every  year. Closely watched this great fest has set of programs that makes domestic people set their inquisitive mind towards shopping, fun and food. Markets set up in the place adjacent to the main festival ground is not far and access to the market stalls for kiters are fun of the day as well. Cuisines, to agree in first quarter, is seen to be sumptuous, often lip smacking if you really like the Asian food. I like it as it never count to me stopping for a foodie like me. OK now forget, this time unlike last year, a tour prgm arranged for the kiters and along with officials were hosted by head of Long house, a peculiar set up built in up above the ground level on wooden blocks and houses, to be counted close to 40 nos occupied by 300 members. The head Mr Henry hosted us and narrated about their living and what stands them united and celebration time to time. A special occasion it considered has some special offering to the God covered folk arts, dance forms to showcase their primary culture and livelihood be it hand weaving or crafting and an aesthetically designed ornamentals kept for display.

14th Borneo international kite festival kicked-off on 26th September 2018.  26 countries participated this year, where 100's of giant kites were exhibited. The old airport, where the venue arranged had full support system. 26 tents for the participant with highlight of national flag in the banner on the sides were installed. This five day festival engrossed full time activity whether it is their kite flying or wind garden who specializes it all the way from Canada or Portuguese. Each one has had its performing arts. The kite workshop this time had its rounds more than any time in the past. 6  times back to back with two designs conducted by the author of this article takes really pride kiter rajesh and Gadiz, a renowned kiter from Singapore.

It says that kite kits Raj has brought from India was not enough hence the materials were arranged. Bringing young kids to matured youth participated in the workshop for the 5 days in two sessions. For a guess! It would be not less than 300 took part in the workshops.

Certificates handed over to schools for their participation.
A tour to long house, ethnic tour it may call was arranged for the participants. This has shared to showcase their cultural part of domestic where 40 families stay together in unison.

Progm begun with offering prayers to the supreme god seeking blessings for the well-being and prosperity. Head of the Long House, TR Henry Uni managed the activity and it followed by local ethnic cuisine spread with sumptuous lunch withdrink made out of rice, a specially distilled home grown wine.

The cultural and folk dance by beautiful artists, stood apart where it triggered to tap dance for some as kiters as participants. Each one in the group enjoyed it. Towards the end end as a must -do ritual to proclaim harmony after a hunting and then to bring gifts / freebies / purposefully that was hanged in a pattern ofa palm tree, that enaced firstly by Henry himself wearing a peculiar hat with sword in hand followed Raj, Y G, Tanto, and that culminated in the cultural activity at Long House.  Pictures to the effect will follow.
